2 dead, suspect arrested after shooting in an apartment in Lafayette


LAFAYETTE, Ind. (WLFI) – A 23-year-old mother and three-year-old daughter have died after a nighttime shooting at the Romney Meadows apartments in Lafayette.

On Monday July 5, Lafayette police responded to a 911 call just after 11:30 pm The caller reported that a person had been shot in the apartment complex. When the police arrived, they discovered that the mother had died from several gunshot wounds. Her daughter was found alive but also suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The three-year-old was airlifted to Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis, where she died shortly after 4 a.m. on Tuesday.

Police say the suspect is her boyfriend. After the incident, he moved away from the apartments, but the police took him into custody during a traffic check. Lafayette police arrested him on two counts of murder.

There was another child in the house at the time of the incident and this child is now living with a parent.
