3 injured in shooting outside Berrien County apartment complex

BERRIEN COUNTY, MI – Three people were shot and injured early Monday, July 25 in an exchange of gunfire in the parking lot of a Benton Township apartment complex.

None of the injuries are life threatening.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. at Berrien Homes Apartments, Benton Township Police said.

Police responded to reports of gunshots and tracked down the victims who were taken to a local hospital.

Police determined that at least two rival groups were shooting at each other, with one of the groups fleeing in a small gray sports utility vehicle. Several vehicles in the parking lot were damaged by the gunfire.

Police have not determined the motive for the shooting and no arrests have been made.

The Berrien County Sheriff’s Department, Michigan State Police, St. Joseph Township Police Department and Benton Harbor Public Safety Department also responded to the shooting.
