The signing of Aston Villa by Inter Milan defender Stefan de Vrij this summer would be a ‘real coup’, according to the journalist Pete O’Rourke.
The 30-something comes more than a year left on his contract and is linked with several clubs, including the Villans.
What is the latest news about De Vrij?
According to Football InsiderDe Vrij is a target for Villa, Tottenham and Newcastle United and has been told by Inter that he is free to leave in the next transfer window.
The same report says the Dutchman’s price tag has now dropped from £40m to £15m, meaning one of the clubs above could be close to a bargain.
De Vrij, who was part of Inter’s champions team last season, is a centre-back with plenty of experience.
As well as the Nerazzurri, De Vrij has also played for their Serie A rivals Lazio, amassing over 200 Italian league appearances through his spells with both outfits and the Netherlands national team.

What did O’Rourke say about De Vrij at Villa?
If Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens can deliver £31.5m-rated De Vrij this summer, O’Rourke believes he would be a signing for the Midlands club.
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, the transfer insider said: “There have been a lot of clubs who have been linked with De Vrij in the past, so I think for Villa it would be a real blow if they manage to lure him to Villa Park. I’m sure they will be quite significant players in this transfer market this summer.
Who could De Vrij replace at Villa?
Anyone can guess, with manager Steven Gerrard apparently having doubts about Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa.
Last month, Football Insider reported that Villa were looking to replace their captain this summer, and before that, the same output claimed offers for his centre-half partner would also be considered.
There is still a long way to go before the Villans bring in De Vrij, however, with his signing likely to be a difficult task.
As already mentioned, other English clubs are also in circles, while French giants Paris Saint-Germain are also said to be interested in signing him.
Journalist Ignazio Genuardi (via Get French Football News) previously claimed that De Vrij could become an option for PSG if he misses Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger, who he now has with the German ready to join Real Madrid.
Simply put, while De Vrij would undoubtedly be an incredible acquisition for Villa, bringing him to Villa Park could be complicated.
