Solihull Moors were denied their first Football League promotion after losing 2-1 to Grimsby Town in extra time at the London Stadium this afternoon.
Neal Ardley’s side opened the deadlock in the National League play-off final on the eve of half-time as Kyle Hudlin headed for Joe Sbarra’s cross, but they couldn’t maintain their advantage in the second period. It was John McAtee who equalized in the 69th minute and sent the game into overtime.
Jordan Maguire-Drew struck late for the Mariners on minute 111 and unanswered the Moors were defeated in their quest to reach the fourth tier of English football for the first time in their history. Aston Villa and Birmingham City fans reacted to the result on social media platform Twitter.
