Signs appear around Arden Villas apartments questioning security measures

Residents living in the Arden Villas apartment community near the University of Central Florida are on edge.

“I feel like they’re not providing me with a safe place to live right now,” Elena said.

She is a UCF student who lives in the same building as Miya Marcano, a 19-year-old student at Valencia Community College, disappeared on Friday.

“I considered getting some pepper spray or a knife for myself, haven’t chosen anything yet and have spoken to reception about moving,” Elena said.

In front of their apartment building, dozens of prayer candles for Miya Marcano surround a bright green poster that reads: “Arden Villas – it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your residents and staff. We hold you accountable.

Someone is posting printed flyers that are taped around the complex. These read “PREISS CO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MIYA MARCANO’S DISAPPEARANCE.”

The messages question background check interview man Armando Caballero, 27, the person of interest in Marcano’s disappearance who was found dead by suicide on Monday.

We have scrambled the names, numbers and email addresses of senior company officials listed in the message. At the bottom of the leaflet it is written: “PREISS CO YOU HAVE MIYA BLOOD ON YOUR HANDS”.

“I know a lot of people are really worried right now,” Elena said.

Arden Villas issued a statement that “relating specifically to Mr. Caballero, no record of a break-in or sexual assault has been found.” He continues, “All potential employees are screened by a national provider of background check services.”

Although FOX 35 News has not found any of these charges in Caballero’s past, despite having a criminal record. FOX 35 News unearthed a December 2013 arrest in Polk County. Caballero was charged with using a destructive device – property damage and discharging a weapon on school property.

None of this is heartwarming for Marcano’s neighbor, Elena.

“It’s a little scary. I look out my window and I see search helicopters, I see film crews, family members gathered together screaming and praying and it’s horrible to see this happening. produce from my bedroom, ”Elena said.
