Villa can sign Laimer as Luiz replacement

Aston Villa have recently been linked with a move for RB Leipzig midfielder Konrad Laimer and the Austrian could be the perfect man to replace Douglas Luiz in Steven Gerrard’s squad next season.

Recent reports have suggested Villa are planning a £17m bid for the 25-year-old, which is also attracting interest from Bundesliga champions Bayern Munich.

Laimer has always been present in the Leipzig side since leaving RB Salzburg, making 160 appearances in all competitions, in which he contributed 11 goals and 18 assists.

The Austrian international also emphasized his versatility, playing in midfield and regularly at right-back, which will surely make him an attractive proposition for Gerrard this summer.

If he moves to Villa Park, he could be Luiz’s natural heir to the Villans midfield, with the Brazilian set to leave this summer.

Should Villa sign Laimer?

Yes

Nope

Nope

AC Milan is part of the teams interested in the former Manchester City man, who made 111 appearances for Villa since joining the club and will no doubt leave a big hole in his midfield, having featured in 34 of his 38 Premier League appearances last season.

However, Laimer could certainly help bridge that gap with his energy and drive in midfield. The Austrian is versatile, with Who scored suggesting his main strengths are tackling, long shots, dribbling and playing through the balls.

He has the advantage over Luiz in this aspect, as the Brazilian is more of a deep playmaker than a solid defensive midfielder, and given the quality of player Gerrard already has in his midfield, Laimer would be probably a better fit.

The RB Leipzig man has previously been described as a “elite presser” and it is easy to see why, with FBref ranking him in the 99th percentile after averaging a ridiculous 34.22 pressures per 90 last season.

Therefore, it is clear that Laimer would add to Villa Park and if Luiz completes his move then the Austrian would be a great replacement, and Johan Lange should do everything he can to sign the £25.2 million Midfielder.
